In December of 2009, Luke
was awarded a contract to manage information technology projects
for WorkSource in Jacksonville, Florida. WorkSource is a regional
Workforce Investment Board (WIB) which provides job training and
placement services to dislocated workers, veterans, and a variety
of other groups who are either unemployed or underemployed.
WorkSource is funded by both Federal and State sources and serves
over 85,000 people each year in its six-county region in Northeast
Florida.
Although Luke will be doing a wide-variety of jobs for
WorkSource, the first two projects are a deployment of “thin
client” computers and the deployment of a document
management solution. The thin client computer deployment is
oriented towards maximizing computing resources through the
installation of low-cost terminal appliances that will serve a
large volume of job seekers at each of their locations. These
terminals will function identically to personal computers although
all their software and data will be hosted and managed on remote
servers at their centralized information technology operations
center. This solution will be delivered to nine locations in their
region and will be developed and implemented in several phases.
The document management project’s goals are focused on
paperwork reduction and the storage and cataloging of thousands of
documents produced each day by the organization. Since WorkSource
is closely monitored by the State of Florida, it is important that
every document regarding a job seeker be filed carefully, and the
organization is committed to a technological solution that will
achieve this objective. Luke’s team of consultants is
actively involved in ensuring WorkSource’s success with both
of these projects as well as with others that will be implemented
in the future. |
